> TTF AND WOOD NI SIGN ACCORD

09 February 2009

Wood NI, the Northern Irish wood promotion group, and the UK’s Timber Trade Federation are to join forces

The agreement, which will initially run for two years, will see the two organisations forge closer working relationships in what is predicted to be a difficult period for the industry.

Wood NI, which was formed three years ago, has fostered a good relationship with the Northern Irish Assembly and has developed an excellent model of how an area organisation can work together to educate the market, and promote timber and wood based products to specifiers, architects and end users in Northern Ireland.

All non-TTF members of Wood NI will be given provisional membership of the TTF.

TTF President, Kevin Hayes said, “This agreement is a watershed for both organisations. The TTF is now able to genuinely say that it represents the entire UK industry and benefit from the excellent work Wood NI continues to do in Northern Ireland. At the same time I hope Wood NI will benefit from the TTF’s experience and resource on some of the big ticket items with which it is involved. Together we can grow further the use of wood.”

Maurice Brooks from Wood NI said, “We are excited about this initiative and look forward to working with the TTF to strengthen the lobbying effort to promote wood.”
