Timber Certification
From 1 April 2009 it became UK Government Policy that timber products to be used in a Government building such as a school, social housing, hospital etc must show chain of custody and be certified i.e. be from sustainable and legal sources.
Chain of Custody shows the movement of goods from the forest through to importer/merchant. Each company in the chain must be certified otherwise the chain is broken. Certification ends with the importer/merchant i.e. the builder or contractor does not need to be certified. Typical schemes of certification are FSC or PEFC. Several members of Wood-NI are FSC and PEFC certified. For further information visit www.cpet.org.uk
