Wood NI announce preparation of a policy document prior to UK Government deadline on public sector timber procurement.

Wood NI has announced that it is preparing a procurement policy document for all its members in advance of a UK Government deadline on public sector timber procurement.

From 2009, all UK Government departments and agencies are mandated to follow a new policy to ensure wood derived products purchased or specified from suppliers meet certain requirements.

Wood NI met with Central Point of Expertise on Timber (CPET) Project Manager Sofie Tind Nielsen who presented the policy to senior industry representatives at a seminar in Belfast’s Ramada Hotel.

Maurice Brooks, Director, Wood NI commented: “2009 is a key deadline for our industry. We expect all timber companies will have to review the CPET Policy against current practice, particularly those who supply the public sector”

He continued “We are calling on all timber companies in Northern Ireland to get involved or face the consequences of not being prepared when the legislation comes into force in 2009.”
